Max - our loved Son, Brother, and Friend

Maxwell Gregory Gabriel was a deeply loved son, brother, nephew, cousin, boyfriend, and friend who lit up the room, made smartass comments, wrote beautifully, thought deeply, and loved all his people back. Max left us on a February evening at midnight his local time in Boulder, CO while travelling home from work. Sadly he caused a head-on accident that left him with a traumatic and fatal brain injury.

His life was energized by music, which drove him to study sound engineering at the University of Colorado, and made him a source of musical influence with everyone he knew. Not all of his suggestions were taken; many friends were concerned by his apprecation of 21 Pilots (they were from his hometown). He was dedicated to the love of his life, Lana, with whom he shared a home in Lafayette, and where he also raised his cat Tater. He was a culinary artist, having gained and applied his skills at the Kitchen, and Gemini in Boulder with dedication; and within which many of his friends were made. He liked to cook, but was a perfectionist who always thought he didn't do the recipe justice, while those eating would swoon over how great it tasted.

He was originally from Westerville, OH. He was 25 years old, and is survived in his immediate family by his mother & father, Meredith & Jeff, sister Lily, and brother Gus, among too many other heartbroken family members to name. He will be missed deeply forever. We love you Max.

Max in Bend, OR

Bend, OR

Our last trip with Max in 2022. His uncle Greg had provided us all tickets to an open air concert headlined by Barenaked Ladies - a hit with us X'ers, but the kids were mostly playing along. Pictured here (yellow cap) with Lily, Dad, and Gus.

Lilys tattoo tribute

Lily's Tattoo

Max was *so* Max from 'Where the Wild Things Are'. He has the same imagination and surliness towards the world. I know he is King of the wild things wherever he is. I hope the wild rumpus never ends Maxy. -Lily

First Day to Grad

Maxwell's first day of school picture next to a quirky senior photo that shows a look I think was actually very expressive of Max's playful personality.

Memories of Colorado Friends

Images of pages from Max's memorial book signed by friends. A couple of his friends threw the sweetest impromptu memorial in the backyard of he and Lana's house on Baseline. It was on Sunday the 12th. They wrote in a book to him which helps us connect more to the man he was away from us. We are thankful for their love and for their having come together that day to be with all of us.

A selection of written rememberances, stories, and essays from the family and even from Max himself. Mostly reflecting either on a life experience with Max, or our feelings after the tragic event.
